Guys looks like we have our Dynamic Mission scheduled for 1/5/19 tentatively. Someone will do a combat event post when we have the exact time so we can assemble our unit. Standbye for additional as it becomes available.....
Just to set expectations for Saturday's stress test. Hopefully both Neun and I can run both our servers to collect data, but it is in no way supposed to be a campaign yet. We're trying to figure out how much we can populate before it catches fire and reduces to rubble. The missions will be a Moscow building populated base mission, and 10 minutes after start, waves of bombers start appearing until it gives us the dreaded MULTIPLAYER OVERLOAD. I'll sort of be monitoring to see when that happens, and I know what is in the missions, so can figure it out. After 20 minutes, the mission ends, and a new one begins, with a battle/convoys/stuff inserted. Then the bomber waves hit again. Targets will be marked on the map, but essentially just get in and goof off. The point is to have warm bodies in there flying to tax the system. You can fly into hangers/do doughnuts on the runway/shoot each other to your hearts content. A free pass! Then I can try to extrapolate the numbers and see what we can handle for mission making. See you Saturday.
A stress test of our servers has been scheduled for:
1200 PM PST
1500 PM EST
2000 PM GMT
We would like as many participants as possible, especially those from Europe. The goal is to push our server until it crashes. We need to run a few tests, so expect to play for awhile, see the server crash, then hop in again. Try to allocate about one hour for the test.
This test will allow us to determine how much we can put into the campaign in terms of targets and AI activity, along with humans, without the server crashing during missions. It is an important test. none of us wants the server to crash during an actual mission!
The good news is preliminary tests suggests the server is strong and quite decent. We should be able to incorporate a fantastic amount of "stuff" as well as a decent number of humans. But we still need to know what the limits are.
Thank you all for your support of this dream-come-true. You're going to enjoy this campaign quite a bit!
This is a place where our mission makers can update us on the coming campaign and later we can highlight our combat encounters and post some feedback from our SCG members...
SCG_Highwayman 11/12/18 at 1:33 PM Quick note,
Schneeman and I met this morning and work on the campaign has started. Schneeman is going to build a stress-test mission first, then we will build the sandbox for the campaign.
Note that the first campaign will be a test on concept. If it works, we will begin development on a proper historical campaign with humans directing both sides.
The idea is organization and logic will control what happens, not random people and algorithms. Losses will be persistent. But first, we need to know just what we can do without crashing the server. Once we understand how much we can get away with, we can build an experience that will be fun, scaled, and reliable.
