Simulated Combat Group started out as a small Luftwaffe fighter group, Staffel 4./JG52 with 6 original members. We were an experienced group of cyber pilots from different parts of the world. One thing we shared was a respect for immersing ourselves in simulated combat with a historical mindset of recreating the mental and physical world of World War II combat over the Eastern Front.
As the years went by we morphed into a better unit from the training programs put in place by some of our more experienced members. The goal was to fly as a real Luftwaffe unit and not go out on piecemeal combat actions involving un-necessary risk taking. After all, the immersion was complete when we could return to base with our mission objectives met, if possible.
With time we realized we needed to create more units to allow our members to experience different air combat immersion, such as ground attack and high altitude bombing. In addition, we created a VVS unit and currently have plans for other units as well, such as American and British aircraft as soon as the simulation is released allowing us this option.
From Staffel 4./JG52 we moved on to Simulated Air Combat Group and eventually to Simulated Combat Group. The transition allowed us to plan for ground combat involving armor and infantry ground forces. Simulations such as Post Scriptum” and “Tank Crew” allow our members to climb into tanks in addition to infantry squad level combat. So we dropped the “Air” and expanded our focus into ground combat.
Simulated Combat Group is currently a World War II dedicated central hub whereby interested cyber pilots can survey and review several squadron enlistment options. The site uses the latest Combat Flight Simulation, IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow as the gaming software of choice for immersing ourselves within the air combat over the Eastern Front. Without a doubt the most historic battlefront of all time and one of the most devastating considering the millions of casualties, both civilian and military, from all sides of the conflict.
Our purpose in flying this simulation is not from a gaming mindset per se, but with a sincere desire to experience as best we can what it must have been like to fly a fighter aircraft, heavy fighter,bomber or transport within the hostile skies over the Russian Front.
Simulated Air Combat Group is comprised of our fighter wing, Staffel 4./JG52 and our heavy bomber wing, Staffel 5./ZG1. Both units complement each other and allow us to have control over our own ground attack unit for accomplishing mission objectives without having to rely on other OKL units.
In addition we have founded the 2./JG51 Staffel, which is a dedicated FW-190 unit taking advantage of the FW-190 A5 which is to be released soon with the upcoming Battle of the Kuban series of IL-2. We just couldn't let this important addition to the Luftwaffe fighting element not be a part of Luftwaffe Simulated Air Combat.
In sharing communication and tactically focusing on specific mission objectives and training techniques the entire online Luftwaffe can become a more effective fighting force. Of course our mutual interest in the aircraft, men and organization of the Luftwaffe throughout WWII is the glue that binds us together.
We also have a VVS unit which allows our members to experience the historical perspective from the Russian side of this epic battlefront. The 57th GIAP has been formed in keeping with our focus on persona based flying using the "Dead is Dead" scoring system. We look forward to the addition of other historical WWII Nationality based squadrons from the USA, UK, and Japan.
All of the units represented here use authentic historical combat tactics and fly to survive in addition to accomplishing our mission objectives. There are no independent pilots flying strictly for their personal glory. This is a team concept using historic formation and fighter tactics to accomplish our mission objectives.
We've found that the best indicator of a truly great air combat simulation is that our tactics actually correspond to the historical strengths and weaknesses of the various aircraft we fly.
